SOICS has been successful in securing the Canada Summer Job (CSJ) grant since 2014 whereby a summer student joins our team during the months of May to August. Among other responsibilities, the summer student is primarily in charge of attending various community markets in the region. SOICS participates in these markets by having an information booth set up where the student actively promotes our services and programs to hundreds of people who come from all over the valley to attend these events. Each year, with this additional public exposure during the weekend, we are able to increase our client numbers and recruit valuable volunteers. Attending these community events provides us the opportunity to cascade our work into the community and engage local communities. We aim to establish as many connections as possible to increase the pace of our clients’ integration.
